Each piece is wheel-thrown by master artisans using premium local kaolin clay, then coated in a matte reactive glaze that shifts from soft pale yellow to rich honey-gold during high-temperature firing. The glaze settles unevenly in the kiln, creating subtle speckles and a gentle gradient that gives every mug its own unique character — no two pieces share the exact same tone or texture. In Jingdezhen’s old kiln yards, where the air smells of clay and smoke, there is a quiet tradition among potters: to wait for the “golden hour” light that filters through workshop windows at sunset. This set was inspired by that very light.
