Rooted in China’s 2,000-year celadon ceramic legacy and handcrafted by master artisans in Jingdezhen, this mug and saucer set reimagines the legendary “secret color” porcelain tradition with playful, heartwarming design.
Each piece is glazed and fired using techniques inherited from ancient Yue ware — the birthplace of Chinese celadon — achieving a luminous, jade-like green finish celebrated by Tang Dynasty poets as “the hue stolen from a thousand mountain peaks”. The set’s signature charm lies in its interactive hidden detail: a delicately hand-embossed napping cat sculpted into the mug’s base, paired with incised fish and vine patterns across the saucer. Rest the mug on the saucer, and the cat appears to curl peacefully beside swimming fish, as if dozing by a still jade pond — a gentle, delightful surprise that reveals itself with every use.
With an ergonomic curved handle and a 250ml capacity, it is perfectly sized for espresso, matcha, afternoon tea, and slow coffee rituals. Food-safe, silky smooth to the touch, and durable for daily use, it transforms every ordinary break into a quiet moment of soft joy.
Celadon is the oldest mature porcelain tradition in China, with a history stretching back over 2,000 years. Its finest form — known as Mi Se, or “secret color” celadon — was once reserved exclusively for imperial courts. Its soft, lake-like green glaze was so revered that poets wrote of it as if it were liquid jade, captured and frozen in fire.
Today in Jingdezhen, modern artisans keep this ancient craft alive, bringing its quiet elegance into everyday life. This set was born from one small, tender moment in a local celadon workshop. At the end of a long day of glazing, our master carver looked down to find a workshop tabby curled fast asleep on a freshly glazed celadon platter. Its fur was soft against the cool, green surface, and it looked as if it were floating on a pool of spring water.
That image became the heart of this design. We carved the sleeping cat into the bottom of the mug, so it stays hidden until you lift your cup. We etched swimming fish and winding vines into the saucer, to turn it into a tiny, still jade pond. When the mug sits in place, the cat rests right at the water’s edge — a quiet, playful scene made entirely of glaze and clay. It is a small secret shared between the maker and the owner, a little burst of warmth waiting to be discovered every time you take a sip.
This is not just a cup and saucer. It is a piece of ancient craft, reimagined for modern life — a reminder that the most precious things are often the quiet, hidden ones, just like the legendary secret color of celadon itself.
